Jataka Parijata adds a clear rule for intelligence: when the 5th lord is in a kendra or trikona, joined by benefics and Jupiter, and strong, the native is intelligent and reads hints and unspoken meaning; when it is badly placed, the mind is slower.^[14] This matches Parashara's house-by-house reading and gives a quick test for aptitude. It can show a child who matures in learning a little later but understands more deeply. It is a style, not a weakness, and it often suits research, writing and careful work. Classical practice confirms every house lord in the Navamsa, the ninth divisional chart. A 5th lord that sits in a difficult house in the main chart but in its own or exalted sign in the Navamsa is considered stronger than it looks, and its difficulties soften. The reverse — good house, weak Navamsa — asks for more effort. Because the Navamsa sign changes about every 3°20', an accurate birth time is essential for this check.
