Trikaal Sandesh — Direct Answer

Putrada Ekadashi comes twice in 2027. The Pausha Shukla one is Tuesday 19 January 2027 and the Shravana Shukla one is Thursday 12 August 2027, both by the Delhi sunrise rule. In January the Dwadashi ends before the next sunrise, so confirm the parana time with your family tradition.

Deep Dive Analysis

Putrada Ekadashi 2027: the straight answer

Putrada Ekadashi falls twice in 2027. The Pausha Shukla one is Tuesday 19 January 2027 and the Shravana Shukla one is Thursday 12 August 2027, both worked out with the Delhi sunrise rule. This page gives the tithi timings, the parana rule, the puja vidhi and two simple remedies. It sits inside our Shubh Muhurat Calculator hub and connects to the full list in Ekadashi Vrat Kab Hai 2026. Hindi readers can open the Hindi page on Putrada Ekadashi, and the daily tithi is always on the panchang.

Why Putrada Ekadashi comes twice a year

Ekadashi is the eleventh tithi of each lunar fortnight, so about 24 of them arrive in a year, and each one has its own name. The name Putrada is given to two of them: the Ekadashi of Pausha Shukla Paksha and the Ekadashi of Shravana Shukla Paksha. People call them Pausha Putrada and Shravana Putrada to tell them apart. So when someone asks when Putrada Ekadashi is, the first question is which month they mean. The wider calendar of auspicious days for the year is laid out in 2027 lucky dates and panchang yogas.

Pausha Putrada Ekadashi: Tuesday 19 January 2027

For Delhi, the Ekadashi of Pausha Shukla Paksha is present at sunrise on Tuesday 19 January 2027, so the vrat is kept on that day. It arrives a few days after the Sun enters Makara in mid January. Nearby in the same series come Safala Ekadashi on 3 January and Shattila on 2 February, as listed in Ekadashi Vrat Kab Hai 2026. If you are planning a wedding or another auspicious event in the same week, the January 2027 Vivah Muhurat page lists the shubh dates for that month.

19 January 2027 tithi timings for Delhi

In Delhi the Dashami tithi runs until about 10:27 on 18 January. Ekadashi then begins and lasts until 07:50 on 19 January. Sunrise on 19 January is at about 07:18, so Ekadashi touches sunrise for only 32 minutes. This is why the sunrise rule makes 19 January the day of the vrat. Dwadashi starts at 07:50 on 19 January and ends before sunrise on 20 January, at about 04:42 by our engine. You can check the timings for your own city in the free Shubh Muhurat Calculator.

The January parana puzzle: Dwadashi ends before sunrise

There is one subtlety this time. Dwadashi ends before sunrise on 20 January, so no Dwadashi is left at the next sunrise. The first quarter of Dwadashi is called Hari Vasara, and it lasts until about 13:03 on 19 January. Parana is never done during Hari Vasara. Traditions give different rulings in such a year, so we do not force one clock time on you. Confirm the parana time with your family custom or a local Smarta or Vaishnava panchang. The reason for this split is explained in the section on Smarta and Vaishnava dates in our Ekadashi guide.

Shravana Putrada Ekadashi: Thursday 12 August 2027

The second Putrada Ekadashi of the year is Thursday 12 August 2027, the Shukla Paksha Ekadashi of Shravana. It comes during Chaturmas, after Devshayani Ekadashi, so many people who keep this vrat also follow a sattvic routine in these months. Unlike January, both the date and the parana are clean this time, as the next section shows. Last year the Shravana Putrada fell on 23 August 2026, which is why you should never copy an old date forward. Our Mokshada Ekadashi 2026 page shows the same method applied to December.

12 August 2027 tithi timings and parana for Delhi

In Delhi, Dashami ends at about 00:59 on 12 August and Ekadashi begins at that moment, lasting until 03:00 on 13 August. Sunrise on 12 August is at 05:52 and falls inside Ekadashi, so the fast is on Thursday 12 August. Dwadashi runs from 03:00 on 13 August to about 05:21 on 14 August, and the 13 August sunrise at 05:53 falls in Dwadashi. Hari Vasara lasts roughly six and a half hours from the start of Dwadashi, up to about 09:35. So parana is simple: take it on the morning of 13 August after Hari Vasara. Check your own city in the Shubh Muhurat Calculator.

How a tithi is calculated: the Surya Siddhanta basis

A tithi is the gap between the Moon and the Sun, measured in steps of 12 degrees. The Manadhyaya of the Surya Siddhanta says that the Moon, moving away from the Sun toward the east each day, makes one tithi for every 12 degrees of that motion.[1] By this count Ekadashi is the tithi when the Moon stands 120 to 132 degrees ahead of the Sun. This is why the start and end of Ekadashi change every time, and why the date list changes from year to year. For the related idea of nakshatra, read the nakshatra guide and the page on the Moon sign.

Why fasting is counted by the lunar measure

The very next verse of the same chapter says that the tithi, karana, marriage, tonsure, all rites, and the rites of vows, fasting and journeys are taken by the lunar measure.[2] In plain words, the Ekadashi vrat depends on the tithi and not on a fixed calendar date, and the tithi is made by the Moon. This is why you should not memorise one English date and expect it to repeat. The Moon also shapes how the mind feels during a fast, a theme covered in Chandra Mahadasha and mental health, and in the daily tithi explainer.

The sunrise rule: why the udaya tithi counts

In daily practice the tithi that is present at local sunrise is taken as the tithi of that day. Our engine reads all five angas of the panchang at sunrise for the chosen city, following this traditional rule. That is how 19 January 2027 becomes an Ekadashi day, even though Ekadashi lasts only until 07:50 that morning. If Dashami touches the sunrise instead, the matter is judged differently, and the full rules sit in our Ekadashi guide. The same method runs behind the live panchang, so the dates on this page and the daily tool agree.

If you live abroad: how the date can shift

The tithi changes at one single moment for the whole world, but sunrise is different in every city. So the day of the vrat can move with your city. In January 2027 Ekadashi runs from 10:27 IST on 18 January to 07:50 IST on 19 January. In London and Houston the sunrise of 18 January falls inside that span, while on 19 January the tithi has already passed, so the fast there is on Monday 18 January. In Gulf cities the January sunrise can fall outside the Ekadashi span, and then a local panchang should decide. A birth chart also rests on place, as explained in how a kundli works.

Smarta and Vaishnava: one day or two

In many years the Ekadashi date shows up twice, because the Smarta tradition picks the day by one rule and the Vaishnava tradition by another. By our sunrise rule both Putrada Ekadashis fall on one day, 19 January and 12 August for Delhi. A particular sampradaya may still use its own rule, and the January parana time can be debated, as written above. If your family follows a fixed custom, give that panchang priority and do not be confused by two dates. For the bigger picture of Vedic timekeeping see what is Vedic astrology and the choghadiya and panchang guide.

Ekadashi dates after Putrada in 2027

After Pausha Putrada, the next Ekadashis for Delhi are Shattila on 2 February, Jaya on 17 February, Vijaya on 3 March (the tithi touches sunrise on both 3 and 4 March), Amalaki on 18 March and Papmochani on 2 April 2027. Their full checks and parana times are on the Ekadashi list page. If you want to combine fasting dates with marriage or housewarming plans, the 2027 Vivah Muhurat list helps, and the year-wide planetary picture is in Planetary Transit 2027.

The Putrada Ekadashi story in brief

In folk tradition the story names King Suketuman of Bhadravati and his queen Shaibya, who had no child and lived in worry. On the advice of sages the king kept the Putrada Ekadashi vrat, and later the couple were blessed with a child. The heart of the story is faith, restraint and service. It is best read as a story of devotion and not as a guarantee. The difference between a tradition and a calculation made from the sky is explained on family life prediction in astrology.

Putrada Ekadashi puja vidhi in eight steps

A common tradition runs in eight steps. One, eat a light sattvic meal on the night of Dashami. Two, bathe on Ekadashi morning and take a sankalp. Three, light a lamp before an image of Lord Vishnu or child Krishna. Four, offer yellow flowers, fruit and tulsi leaves, plucking the tulsi a day earlier because plucking it on Ekadashi is avoided in tradition. Five, recite Vishnu Sahasranama or the Santana Gopala mantra. Six, keep restraint and truthful speech through the day. Seven, light a lamp in the evening and listen to the katha. Eight, break the fast on Dwadashi and feed someone in need. Follow your own family custom if it differs.

Choosing your fast: nirjala, phalahari or sattvic

Pick the level of fasting by your health and tradition: nirjala, phalahari, or simply grain-free sattvic food. Most householders choose the phalahari or sattvic form, because nirjala is hard and not right for everyone. People with diabetes, pregnancy, or medicines to take should not keep a strict fast without a doctor. The aim of the vrat is restraint and not hurting the body. If you wish to see your health picture in the chart, the free health prediction calculator gives a starting view, though it never replaces medical advice.

What to eat and what to avoid on Ekadashi

In a phalahari fast, fruit, milk, curd, makhana, sabudana, singhara or kuttu flour and rock salt are usually allowed, while grains, pulses and ordinary salt are left. Onion, garlic and tamasic food are avoided. Buy kuttu and singhara flour fresh from a trusted shop, since stale flour is a known cause of stomach trouble. On the parana day start with something light. If you like the link between food, body type and the birth chart, read the Ayurveda dosha and lagna bridge.

Remedy 1: chant the Santana Gopala mantra

What to do: on Ekadashi morning chant this mantra 11 times: ॐ देवकीसुत गोविन्द वासुदेव जगत्पते, देहि मे तनयं कृष्ण त्वामहं शरणं गतः. When: after bathing, in a quiet corner. Cost: nothing. For how many days: on the Ekadashi day, and if you wish on every Ekadashi for a few months. Why for you: it is the traditional prayer-mantra for the wish for a child, and eleven repetitions are easy to keep. No rosary or long recitation is needed. Your own chart view on children is available in the free Santan Yog calculator.

Remedy 2: simple food charity on Ekadashi

What to do: give food, milk or fruit to a needy family or to children. When: after your parana, during the day. Cost: 100 to 300 rupees is enough. For how many days: start the same day and repeat once a month. Why for you: the wish for a child is naturally joined to service of children, and Phaladeepika, in its chapter on transit results, counts japa, vows and charity among the means of pacifying planets.[3] To think about your family duties in a wider way, see also the Amavasya and tarpan remedies.

Wanting a child: astrology and medicine together

Delay in having a child is often a medical matter, so the first step is a medical check-up for both partners, and neither a vrat nor astrology is a replacement for it. Astrology can only point to timing and direction, such as the fifth house, the strength of Jupiter and the running dasha. So keep Putrada Ekadashi as a practice of faith and restraint, and run the treatment alongside it. For a deeper reading of the topic see what the chart says about a childs destiny and the child birth prediction guide.

The fifth house and Jupiter in the chart

In a birth chart, children are judged mainly from the fifth house, its lord, Jupiter and the navamsa. The fifth house is called the house of children, and if its lord is strong, the side of children is held to be strong. Jupiter is the natural significator of children, so its position and strength are checked too. This is a matter of the whole picture and not of one single yoga. For details read Jupiter as putrakaraka and the fifth house lord, and see houses in astrology.

Dasha and transit: how to look at timing

The timing of children is usually read from the dasha and antardasha of the fifth house or its lord, and from the time Jupiter transits favourable houses. Phaladeepika lists Jupiter as favourable in the 2nd, 5th, 7th, 9th and 11th houses from the Moon.[4] Jupiter stays in Simha from 31 October 2026 to 24 January 2027 and again from 26 June 2027. For an Aries Moon that is the fifth house and for a Sagittarius Moon the ninth, so it is seen as a relatively kind window, but the dasha must agree. Check your dasha in the free dasha calculator, then read dasha timing for child development and Jupiter transit 2026.

Pitra dosh and children: one careful note

Some families link a delay in children with Pitra dosh. That talk makes sense only after the chart has been checked for the Sun, the ninth house and Jupiter, and not on fear or guesswork. You can test it with the free Pitra Dosh calculator, and the details of the link are in Pitra dosh and childbirth. The fifth house angle is covered in Pitra dosh in the 5th house. Do any remedy only after such a check, keep it simple, and never take a scary claim as fact.

Is Putrada Ekadashi only for a son?

Because the name has the word putra in it, many people think the vrat is only for a son. In tradition the word putra is often used for a child in general, and many families keep this vrat for the happiness, health and long life of their children, whether sons or daughters. This page does not place one gender above another, and it does not promise the birth of a child. Questions about children and family are discussed more widely in Saraswati Yoga and a childs education and in our services for child destiny reading.

Precautions: who should not keep a hard fast

Pregnant and nursing women, the elderly, children and people with serious illness should keep the spirit of the vrat with fruit or one light meal instead of a hard fast. Take medicines on time. If you feel dizzy, weak or your sugar drops, it is right to break the fast, and tradition itself places health first. Those who feel their mind is fragile can also use the calm routine of the vrat but should seek care when needed. For a wider look at the mind in the chart see the Moon sign page and the Chandra Mahadasha guide.

Five common mistakes people make

The first is to repeat last years date, when the Shravana Putrada was 23 August in 2026 and is 12 August in 2027. The second is to break the fast by the English date alone, without checking where Dwadashi ends and what Hari Vasara is. The third is to copy the Delhi tithi when you live in another city, especially abroad. The fourth is to treat the fast as a guarantee of a child. The fifth is to damage your health with a hard fast. The yearly view of tithis is also on the page for Amavasya dates in 2026.

How to check the tithi for your own city

Walk through five steps. Find the sunrise time for your city. Look at which tithi is running at that moment. Note when Ekadashi starts and ends. Note when Dwadashi ends. Work out Hari Vasara as the first quarter of Dwadashi. This is hard to do by hand, so use the free Shubh Muhurat Calculator and the live panchang. If the result matches your city, trust it, and keep the Delhi date only as a reference. For a quick lookup of what tithi is running today, see Aaj kaun si tithi hai.

When a personal consultation makes sense

If the worry about children has lasted many years, medical treatment is already on, and you want to know the direction of time from astrology, then the chart has to be read for the fifth house, Jupiter and the running dasha together. At Trikaal Vaani this work is overseen by Rohiit Gupta, Chief Vedic Architect, with 16 plus years of Parashara practice, and the reading is human-led. The options are on the services page, and a good first step is to generate your chart with the free Janam Kundali calculator. Slots for personal readings are limited each week.

Conclusion: fix the date, hold the hope with restraint

Putrada Ekadashi in 2027 falls twice, on Tuesday 19 January and Thursday 12 August, by the Delhi sunrise rule. In January confirm the parana time through your tradition, and if you live abroad use your own sunrise. Treat the vrat as a practice of faith and restraint, keep medical care alongside it, and take only the direction of timing from astrology. Open the free Santan Yog calculator today to see the picture in your own chart, and keep the Ekadashi list for 2026 handy for the next fasts.
